Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast – Replacement Car Park Barriers
BES were engaged to supply and install seven replacement vehicle access barriers, controlling entry and exit at the Royal Victoria Hospital Staff Car Parks. Approximately 2,000 barrier activations occurred daily and barrier reliability and functionality were of vital importance.
The barriers were required to replace 12-year old barriers which were obsolete due to the non-availability of spare parts and BES’ remit was to install the barriers with as little disruption as possible and to facilitate this part of the work was completed out of hours.
BES procured and installed “Gard” barriers manufactured by Came/BPT.
The boom size of all the barriers was 4 metres and 24v DC models were utilised to allow 100% intensive service duty cycle, ie, no rest time between operations was required. Traditional 240v AC models normally work on a 50% duty cycle, requiring rest periods between operations.
To minimise project expenditure BES engineers integrated the existing Computerised Access Control equipment controllers with the new Gard barriers.
